Emiliano Martinez is scrambling for a move away from Aston Villa before the transfer window deadline and has attracted interest from a host of Serie A sides.

Why Does Emiliano Martinez Want To Leave Aston Villa?

The Argentinian shot-stopper has been surrounded with transfer controversy this summer and is continuing his search for a move away from Aston Villa with just hours of deadline day remaining.

Martinez appeared to be on his way to Manchester after transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano, revealed that Manchester United had agreed personal terms with the 32-year-old.

However, negotiations came to an end after Jadon Sancho, who would have joined Villa in a swap deal, refused to leave on a permanent basis – preferring a loan move.

The English international is now likely to join the Villains on loan, but United have ended their pursuit for Martinez and have now agreed a deal with Belgian shot-stopper, Senne Lammens.

Now, as the summer transfer window comes to a close, Martinez is on the hunt for a last-minute move as his supposed switch to Manchester is off the table.

Martinez has seen his profile rise greatly in recent years, making 213 appearances for Villa, winning the World Cup with Argentina and picking up the FIFA Best Goalkeeper twice (2022 & 2024).

Despite this recent success, the 32-year-old has not attracted interest from the elite sides in Europe and has been heavily linked with a move to Galatasaray.

The Turkish side are currently front-runners to land the Aston Villa star, but will now face stiff competition in the final stages of this window as AS Roma are reportedly interested in the Argentinian.

Could Emiliano Martinez Move To Serie A?

During his playing career so far, Martinez has made the majority of his appearance in England, donning the jersey at Aston Villa, Arsenal, Reading, Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham and Oxford United.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed a brief spell out of England however, making six appearances for Getafe and he may have to try a new country this season – with the main interest coming from Turkey and now, Italy.

Gian Piero Gasperini has made a strong start to his first Serie A season as Roma boss, winning both matches so far and keeping a clean sheet each time.

The Giallorossi manager has managed to bring in some star names like Wesley Franca, Evan Ferguson and Leon Bailey, with the latter also coming from Aston Villa.

Unfortunately, Bailey suffered an injury in his opening training session and Gasperini is looking for some more additions before the transfer window ends.

Mile Svilar currently holds the number one position for Roma, keeping the aforementioned clean sheets in Serie A and Gasperini is not looking to replace the Serbian.

However, the former Atalanta manager is reportedly hoping to bring in a strong back-up keeper with experience and Martinez may be available on a cheaper deal with time running out.

The Villains have set an asking price of around $30 million, but may consider a loan deal with a mandatory buy-option which will allow Martinez to leave with money guaranteed.
